about.

Hello, I’m Omarr Moore, Founder of BLE Comics and creator of The New Knights. My love for comics stretches back over forty years, into the late seventies, when my older cousin, Stan introduced me into this world of fantasy which I would never leave.  Back then, we didn’t have many heroes that looked like us, but instead of letting that bother us we did something different; we made our own.  We literally had dozens of characters, teams, and stories that we made into comic books with nothing more than our imagination; folded typing paper and pencils.  Unfortunately, only one of our books survived the years, a 1979 comic that my cousin Stan made of his flagship team, The Guardian Angels (cool name to us kids back then).  I still have this book in safe keeping today as a reminder of that wonderful chunk of childhood.

Over the years, as I grew older and took on more interests, I would always revisit my love for drawing and comics. In between, sometimes a decades long hiatus, the creative bug would hit me and I’d draw and create comics and teams and come up with elaborate stories, only to go into hiding for another 10 or so years.  In 1996, I decided that I really wanted to make my own comics and put them out in the world, but as a young man, only a year out of college, I could barely afford my first computer let alone the scanner and software to digitally color my books, and printing costs…. Forget it! So once again I went on another 10 year hiatus until I was finally able to afford a decent enough computer and maybe even some bootleg software.  Of course by then the labors of a full time job and the responsibilities of parenthood took precedence over my “childish” comic dreams. I simply didn’t have the time.

Then in 2017 an unexpected tragedy hit my family as we suddenly lost a loved one.  Before flying out to the funeral I stopped and bought myself a tablet, as I needed a way to express my grief and drawing always took me into another world.  Although it had been years since I drew anything, it started to slowly come back to me and I started to grow an affinity for digital drawing, as I had never tried it before.  I didn’t know at the time, but what I was drawing became the foundation of my new flagship team and the launch of BLE Comics.

The New Knights were a team that I was working on way back in 1996 that I couldn’t seem to get any traction with. The team consisted of two of my cousin Stan’s old characters and a bunch of my new characters that I just threw together as an experiment. I really didn’t like where I was going with it so I shelved it.  Fast forward to 2017 and I’m in my hotel room with this new tablet and I find myself drawing this fascinating new character with awesome powers, with a bit of a youthful edge to her and an indomitable free spirit.  I usually drew male characters when I doodle but this was more than a doodle and this character had a life of her own.  That’s when I realized that I had drawn Zaria, my niece, whose funeral I was in town for. Before I knew it, I had fleshed an entire character arc for her and decided that she was the missing link I needed to make The New Knights work.  It took me nearly two years to finish the first issue and I didn’t even tell my family about Zaria serving as the inspiration for my character until after the second issue was released a year later, however the entire time, she was my secret muse that resurrected what I now call the BLE Universe.

The New Knights is the story of two old heroes coming out of retirement to train the next generation.  It’s a story of culture, action, and the passing of tradition from one generation to the next.  It is full of nostalgia, modern day humor, unique characters, loads of action, character development and interpersonal relationships, with subtle, yet poignant, social commentary.

The New Knights is the flagship title and starting point for BLE Comics LLC and the BLE Universe. Through The New Knights you will be introduced to many more heroes and teams through dynamic worldbuilding and the playful dynamic of the generation gap between the new heroes and the heroes of the 70s and 80s.  The heroes are black and people of color, as our main goal is to fill the void of black superheroes and representation of heroes that our culture can relate to. That being said, we write stories for all people to enjoy, especially if you’re an old school comic book nerd like me (actually, all new school comic book nerds are welcomed too).  As an artist and writer, I try to accompany vibrant art with fresh stories that are both reminiscent of my favorite periods yet unique to the genre. I really hope you enjoy the books as much as I enjoyed creating them for you and welcome to BLE Comics!
